When do you use a colon in a sentence?

Rich Text Editor.To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph.An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu.Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor.     Hello!


    A colon is mainly used in these two situations: to introduce an explanation and to introduce an enumeration.


    Introducing an explanation:

    • He won't be playing tomorrow: he broke his arm.
    • Esmée had a heartache: she had eaten too much dessert.


    Introducing an enumeration:

    • The store was huge, with all the sweets in the world: lollies, jujubes, chocolates, nougat, etc.
    • Julian speaks 6 languages: French, English, German, Spanish, Mandarin and Russian.
