    The density of a substance is determined by the quantity of mass it possesses in a given volume.

    A substance with a higher density than another thus has more material in the same volume.

    For example, if substance A has a density of 5 g/ml and substance B has a density of 25 g/ml, then substance B has 5 times as much mass in a given space.
