Secondary I • 3yr.

Hi,

My teacher is asking me to measure the volume of a rock. How do I do that? The sides are not straight ... I cannot measure them!

    Hello Adorable Moose!

    Good question 😉

Sometimes, determining the volume of an object can be difficult!

A frequently used volume-determining technique in science is to fill a graduated cylinder with a certain amount of water and then recording that amount.

Then, we can drop the rock into the graduated cylinder containing the water and take note of the new volume shown by the graduated cylinder. Finally, we can calculate the difference between these volumes (final volume - initial volume) to determine the volume of the rock in question!

Don't hesitate to come back to us if you have any other questions!

    Éveline 😊
