Question de l’élève

Secondaire 4 • 2a

Bonjour, je dois répondre en anglais à un questionnaire à propos du film Green Mile et je ne sais pas la réponse d'une question. Est ce que vous pouvez m'aider. John Coffey says, " He killed them with their love, " and goes on to explain that it happens all the time all over the world. What does he means ?

    Hi,

My answer will not be totally precise since I didn’t watch the movie, but I am pretty sure it is a metaphor. Killing with love can mean destroying someone by loving them or stop loving them. It could also be showing affection to a cold hearted ‘mean’ character (like ‘kill them with kindness’). It could also mean killing someone because they love them (passion crime). If the character then proceeded to say it happens all over the world, I would suggest analyzing that second part of the quote as well, since it may be meaningful.

The key in the analysis of this passage is to try and see what is the link between love and killing there. Is it a cause-consequence dynamic or is it only a way to project/image a bigger meaning (metaphor) ?

    I hope this helps.
