I'm not exactly sure what the goal of the question is. If the objective is to simplify the polynomial expression, then you should start by grouping all the terms that are of the same exponential order:

    $$ 2x^4+3x^2y-5y^2+10-5x^2y-20+3x^4 $$

    $$ = 2x^4+3x^4+3x^2y-5x^2y-5y^2+10-20 $$

Then you can proceed to adding up the terms that are similar to each other:

    $$ = 5x^4-2x^2y-5y^2-10 $$

In the above case, 2x^4 goes with 3x^4 because both share an x^4 component. 3x^2y and -5x^2y go together because they share an x^2y component. 10 and -20 go together because they have no x or y component (or rather, they have an x^0y^0 component, which is equal to 1). -5y^2 has no common component with any other term.

    Here you go!
