Secondary IV • 2yr.

Hi, I have to do an exercice on the present perfect and the simple past and we have to choose which tense must be used for each sentence. In this sentence I am not very sure why it is in the present perfect perfect because "this year" is a specific time in the past.

The sentence: "I have bought alot of clothes this year"

Thank you :)

    Hello LuneCalme3802,

Thank you for asking you question in zone d'entraide.

"I have bought a lot of clothes this year."

With the word "this year", this sentence has meaning that you have been buying clothes this year. Simply, it's an action that continued in the past.

    For example, I would say

In April, I bought 30 clothes. In June, I bought 20 clothes. In November, I bought 50 clothes.

Here, it happened in the past frequently, same as constantly.

I hope my explanation helped you.

Continue on your work:) Bon étude!!
