Hi!
To calculate an average, you can use the following formula:
$$ Average = \frac {Sum\ of\ all\ data} {Number\ of\ data} $$
Here is an example:
Julie has 23 candies, Marc has 19 and Sophie has 21. What is the average number of candies each of them has?
So let's apply this formula to this problem:
$$ Average = \frac {23 + 19 + 21} {3} $$
$$ Average = \frac {63} {3} $$
$$ Average = 21 $$
Children, therefore, have an average of 21 candies.
