Hello. Why did the patriots rebel? Thanks in advance!

    Thank you very much for your question!

    Several causes can explain the rebellions of the Patriots in 1837-1838. We can think of these:

    • The debate between the Patriot Party and the British Party on the financing of the canals, tariffs and subsidies
    • The riot in Montreal and the wave of British immigrants
    • The agricultural crisis and overpopulation in the seigneuries (famines)
    • The Russell Resolutions
    • The manifestation of the discontent of the Patriot Party in the popular assemblies
