When calculating a discount, you have to think that you will get the t-shirt at a lower price than the initial one! In your case, there is a 20% discount.
My trick for solving such situation is as follows:
1 +/- (discount / tax)
In this case, we have a 20% discount, therefore, we apply the above rule by subtracting; 1-0.2 = 0.8
The only step remaining is to multiply the price of your t-shirt ($ 25) by the discount; 25 * 0.8 = $ 20
If, on the contrary, you had a 20% tax, you would have applied the rule, but by adding this time; 1 + 0.2 = 1.2
Then, multiply the price of the t-shirt ($ 25) * 1.2 = $ 30
