hi,
in class, I'm reading a story of O.Henri, " The Gift of the Magi".
here, I have three questions.
one, what does this title refer to?
two, what does MAGI means here?
three, what is the theme of the story?
thank you 😊

Good evening GalaxieGamma!
Although I have not read that book, here's what I found on the internet:
The word Magi refers to the sages (or the three wise men) who visited Mary, Joseph and Jesus shortly after Jesus was born. I believe the title of the book is an allusion to the fact that the three wise men are the ones who initially invented the art of giving Christmas presents (they each brought Jesus a gift: gold, frankincense, and myrrh). The presents that they gave had a deeper meaning (as an example, the gold symbolized royalty). In the book of Magi, just as the three wise men, the gift that the two characters gave to each other had a deeper meaning, symbolizing their love for each other.
As for the theme of the book, I can not really tell you what it is about, since I have not read it.
I hope that helps and let us know if you have any other questions.
