Alloprof’s best resources for early career teachers

Article

Congratulations! You are about to embark on the exciting adventure of teaching. Since its creation, Alloprof has been committed to supporting academic success by helping students, parents, and teachers alike. In the following article, we have compiled a list of Alloprof’s most useful resources and services to help you build your toolbox and simplify your life as a teacher. Read on to learn how these tools can give you a boost when you need inspiration or are feeling overwhelmed by the task at hand.

Concept sheets

The concept sheet library is Alloprof’s flagship resource. This collection includes thousands of concepts from most school subjects, and covers every grade under Quebec’s education program. Most of these concept sheets feature a summary of the concept, as well as explanations, examples, and illustrations, and will often include videos and exercises. They can be very useful for preparing lessons, summarizing concepts, gathering information for exams, choosing content for evaluations, and more. You can also direct your students to these concept sheets for their homework and lessons, or use them in class for review or learning activities.

Review guides and study tips

As the school year draws to a close, end-of-year exams become a source of stress for both students and teachers. Fortunately, Alloprof has developed review guides in Science (Math coming soon!) dedicated to concepts covered in the curriculum that may appear on final exams. They are especially useful for planning lessons and review sessions. Each guide provides an exhaustive list of the relevant concepts organized by cycle.

Our exam prep and study tips section features essential tools and resources for students, which aim to structure their study sessions, support their well-being, and help them achieve academic success. This section has everything a student needs to succeed, both in their final exams and throughout their education.

Interactive games and exercises

It’s no secret that students love games! On our website, educational games take pride of place. Don’t hesitate to incorporate games into your lesson plans to mix things up. This is a win-win strategy: your students will learn while having fun, and you will get to teach a motivated class. For example, high school students will have a blast balancing chemical equations to save a scientist’s life in our game called Solitary Reaction. Our games are sure to be a hit with your class!

Our exercises are another great resource for jazzing up your lessons. They are very practical for reviewing essential concepts taught at both the elementary and high school levels. Students can work through the exercises at their own pace and receive immediate feedback that helps them stay motivated. We are also in the process of introducing exercises with enhanced interactive features, including one on vocabulary (link in French). The best part? We do the corrections for you!

Videos and Crash Lessons

The Alloprof website is chock-full of videos that explain concepts with compelling examples, demonstrations, and tips presented in simple language. On our YouTube channel, videos are grouped into playlists by grade and subject for easy reference. In addition, to complement your module review sessions, we have a series of interactive videos called Crash Lessons (French only). What makes Crash Lessons different? They include in-reading questions that help students review and consolidate what they have learned.

Videos and Crash Lessons have a wide variety of applications in the classroom. For instance, you could use them in a flipped classroom approach by assigning them as homework, and then using class time to answer questions, review concepts, and do practical exercises. You could also project them on your IWB to make lessons more dynamic.

Newsletter

Last but not least, you can subscribe to the Alloprof teacher newsletter. This resource is ideal for keeping up-to-date on the best tools for each grade and subject, new features, and inspiring tips for planning lessons and supporting students and their parents. You will also be among the first to learn about our campaigns and contests.

Tips and tools

We also have spaces where students can ask school-related questions (Help ZoneAsk a teacher), which can be very valuable for teachers. Consider recommending these services to your students to overcome hurdles they may encounter when doing homework or studying for exams. A team of education professionals is on hand to help any student who has a question during our business hours. In addition, they review explanations posted in the Help Zone, which is accessible 24/7.

You can also conduct educational experiments using the Help Zone. Why not give cooperative learning a try, and ask students to work in teams to answer questions posted on the site?

The organization would like to thank the RBC Foundation for supporting this project.
